Feline Heartworm Disease

Feline Heartworm Disease

New information on Feline Heartworm Disease has come to our attention. Studies conducted in the Missouri and Illinois areas have indicated a surprising presence of heartworm infection in cats. Because of the incidence of canine heartworm disease, the hungry mosquito population, and our prior cases of feline heartworm disease, we believe that this problem will increase in our area.

A few very good reasons to use a preventative heartworm medication for your cat:

  • Feline Heartworm Disease is very difficult to diagnose.
  • Feline Heartworm Disease is not easily or safely treated.
  • Feline Heartworm Disease has been found in both indoor and outdoor cats.
  • Feline Heartworm Disease is 100% preventable. Unlike with dogs, no prior blood tests are required before starting feline heartworm preventative.

The American Heartworm Society recommends pet owners be made aware of the potentially serious consequences of heartworm infections in cats.

Tri-City Animal & Bird Clinic recommends Revolution Plus and Advantage Multi as our product of choice in preventing Feline Heartworm Disease. In addition to preventing heartworms, Revolution Plus and Advantage Multi also controls fleas, flea eggs and larva, ear mites, roundworms and hookworms all for about the same cost as other topical flea products. Topical application for your cat could not be easier.

Starting your pet on a once-a-month topical heartworm preventative is the best way to deal with so many common parasite problems in cats. We will be glad to talk to you about preventing this disease in your cat.

  • I've been visiting Tri-City since 2019 for my small animals - namely domestic rats - and have nothing but praise for it's doctors. They have helped me with everything from chronic illness treatments to end of life care, and have a wonderful staff with experience in small animal handling. If you're looking for a cozy, wonderful vet for your rat/guinea/other exotic pet, then this is the place.

  • This has been our family vet for 23 years. We have seen many of the different vets on staff. They all have been friendly, knowledgeable, and compassionate, including the support staff. They even made a house call when our dog was too sick to make the trip. They offer grooming and have a full pharmacy.

  • This place is awesome, vet techs are professional, everyone is nice, Dr. King is incredible with animals. My dog has pretty bad anxiety and she always get down on the floor and makes them feel so comfortable. Prices are reasonable, and they offer online medical history now which is awesome.
